Hardware developer idoregesz.hu has introduced the Commodore Multimedia Breakout V2, a compact and clever add-on that expands connection options for every version of the C64 and the Ultimate64 board. The Commodore Multimedia Breakout V2 brings modern convenience to a classic machine, making it easier to connect to contemporary audio and video setups without modification.

The breakout unit connects directly to the bottom port of the Commodore 64 using a precision-machined DIN 262° metal connector, offering a full range of outputs. It includes composite RCA for video, two RCA jacks for stereo or double-mono sound, an S-Video connector for crisp luma and chroma output, and a 3.5 mm jack for headphones.

Users can fine-tune the device using small jumpers on the panel. A color-reduction option can improve compatibility with modern LED displays, while a stereo/double-mono switch lets owners configure audio for their specific setup. Another jumper handles stereo pin selection, allowing Ultimate64 users to choose between pin 5 or pin 7 for their second channel. For the tinkerers out there, there’s even a SID noise-reduction hack—a love-it-or-hate-it option that can quiet background hiss on certain setups.

It’s worth noting that older 326298 C64 mainboards with only five pins on the DIN connector won’t output luma and chroma, so the S-Video port won’t function on those boards. However, composite output works perfectly.

Built from quality materials, the unit uses Lumberg RCA connectors, metal S-Video and jack connectors, and a black-finished PCB. It sells for 49 € (or 38 £) plus shipping, with worldwide availability via PayPal starting at the end of April 2019.

For C64 fans looking to modernize their setup, the Commodore Multimedia Breakout V2 provides an elegant, plug-and-play way to connect their hardware to today’s screens and sound systems.
