The Amiga MIDI Adapter has just received a thoughtful update with the release of version 1.3 from Retronic Design. This compact serial MIDI interface, designed specifically for the Amiga, makes it easy to connect MIDI gear using the Amiga’s RS-232 serial port. The adapter is self-powered, compact, and compatible with popular software like Bars and Pipes Professional and OctaMED.

With version 1.3, Retronic Design introduces several improvements to the Amiga MIDI Adapter. The schematic and PCB have both been corrected. The traces are now wider, ensuring better reliability, and the LED alignment has been fixed for cleaner assembly. It also features a smaller but capable 5V regulator, helping keep the overall size down while maintaining performance.

The Amiga MIDI Adapter converts RX and TX serial signals into standard MIDI TTL. MIDI IN is fully opto-isolated to avoid ground loops and unwanted noise—crucial for clean audio in studio setups. A convenient MIDI THRU port also allows daisy-chaining to additional devices, making it useful in larger MIDI rigs.

The device’s development has been incremental:

  • v1.0 marked the initial release,
  • v1.1 corrected LED polarity,
  • v1.2 fixed the DB-25 footprint,
  • and v1.3 brings all the latest updates together.

Retro music creators and MIDI fans can have the latest version built directly through PCBWay via Retronic Design’s shared projects. It’s a plug-and-play solution that brings MIDI connectivity to the Amiga with minimal fuss and maximum compatibility.
