The new AROS ABIv11 Core Enhancements mark another big leap for the open-source Amiga-inspired system. The update introduces faster graphics, stronger 64-bit support, and a more stable environment. Developers across the AROS One Project continue to refine the core system for better speed and reliability.
One major highlight of the AROS ABIv11 Core Enhancements is the extended C library, now supporting wide characters. Deremon led this update, expanding compatibility for modern applications. Kalamatee added SSE2, SS3, and AVX-accelerated pixel conversion routines, greatly improving visual performance. A new partitioning tool is under development, while pixel processing routines have been optimized for both standard and SSE operations. Zstd and LZMA libraries are now included, along with a new option for rounded Zune frames by Bo Stale Kopperud.
Many subsystems received careful updates. The kernel gained refinements from Johan G and Kalamatee, while Neil upgraded several network drivers for better 64-bit performance. Libraries such as Freetype, PNG, JFIF, BZ2, and Z1 were updated to newer versions. Kalamatee also refreshed the AROS build system, introduced SysExplorer v0.15, and implemented Grub 2.12. Meanwhile, Deadwood released OpenURL v7.18, making browser communication smoother than before.
The transition to 64-bit continues to improve. Mesa3DGL, Gallium, IntelGMA, and VMwareSVGA drivers now function properly. Deadwood and Kalamatee fixed low-level issues in exec.library and AROSTCP. They also improved MenuItem.mui behavior for consistency. These updates make the 64-bit AROS platform more reliable for both users and developers.
Dozens of bug fixes target daily usability. Gadtools now handles scrollers correctly, Wanderer responds properly to selections, and the Diskfont library no longer crashes when missing fonts. Network errors in AROSTCP have been resolved, while the Calculator app now handles trailing zeros correctly. Even file operations like Copy and system processes in DOS.library work more predictably.
Alongside these system improvements, the AROS One System Update introduces quality-of-life changes. It features a new Grub splash image, extra datatypes for AVIF, HEIC, and TIFF files, and an updated user startup. Icons and stack sizes were corrected, while new scripts control the bottom status bar.
The AROS One App Update also adds new tools and games. Software like QuickPart v0.61, VIM v9.1, Sploiner v1.01, and DOSBox v0.74 are included. The Config App Update modernizes DOpus4, ZuneARC, and other preferences, while new WEBM sample files showcase multimedia playback. For fun, SDL2-based games such as Giddy3, Super-Hexagon, and Tilt-N-Roll are now part of the package.
Together, these updates make AROS faster, smoother, and more flexible than ever. The AROS ABIv11 Core Enhancements ensure the project continues to evolve, keeping the Amiga-inspired platform alive and thriving for the next generation of users.
