Boot C64 OS on Your Ultimate 64 From a Saved REU Image

119

The Ultimate64 is an impressive FPGA-based reproduction of the Commodore 64, equipped with advanced features such as a 16 MB REU (RAM Expansion Unit). The REU’s contents can be saved to USB storage as an image file and even restored automatically on power-up.

When paired with C64 OS’s Fast App Switching and Fast Reboot from the REU, along with the Ultimate64’s ability to save and restore REU contents, users can launch directly into C64 OS after powering up within seconds using a single key combination, SHIFT+RUN.

Gregory plans to implement a future option that allows C64 OS to command the Ultimate64 to save the REU image automatically, streamlining the process even further.
