This is the second iteration of the tool originally known as the NMI Image Ripper, now featuring enhanced user messaging upon installation and expanded support for text modes. When the user presses the Restore key to trigger the NMI, the tool reads the VIC-II registers to identify the active video mode and examines additional registers to locate where video data is stored in memory.
For text modes, the ripper now generates a .PET file, compatible with C64 OS screenshots and the format used by Desktop Designer. This new feature allows users to capture screenshots from games and other C64 software that utilize a text-based UI. Additionally, the ripper saves the custom character set within the .PET file, ensuring an accurate representation of the original display.
