The C64 OS Archiver now supports the creation of version 3 CAR files, a new format that includes a CRC32 checksum appended to the end of each file for added data integrity.
In the latest update, the Installer Utility introduces an integrity check feature. When working with a version 3 CAR file, the check button becomes active, enabling users to verify file integrity before extracting or installing. For older CAR file versions, the check button remains disabled.
Upon clicking the check button, a CRC32 check is performed on the file data, comparing it against the embedded checksum. If the file fails this integrity check, a warning icon appears, and the install or extract option is disabled. If the check passes, a checkmark icon confirms that the archive is ready for safe installation or extraction.
