In an earlier video, Gregory Nacu showcased the upcoming Wikipedia App for C64 OS, but it was still in a buggy state and crashed towards the end. In this latest video, the app has become much more stable, and several new features have been added, bringing it closer to its final version.
Gregory resolved the issue with using the REU alongside the User Port (bit-banged RS-232) modem, allowing fast app switching while staying online. Utilities can now be used without disrupting the network stack, enabling the use of a network-based utility simultaneously with the Wikipedia app. Additionally, Gregory demonstrated how the color of the search bar—mistakenly referred to as the status bar in the video—can be customized. A significant new feature is the introduction of linked text, which allows users to click on links within the text to navigate to different articles. Furthermore, the app now supports loading articles in various languages, each with a backend transliteration dictionary that converts accented letters to plain ASCII according to the language’s norms.
