Colin Thomson’s blends two creative passions—pixel art and SID music—into one calm and captivating C64 creation. His latest work is a hand-drawn landscape sketch done entirely in C64 pixel art, showing just how expressive the 8-bit format can be.
Using a soft, limited color palette, the sketch depicts rolling hills and a quiet horizon. The simple details carry a surprising emotional weight. Each pixel feels intentional, pulling you into the scene without needing any animation or elaborate effects.
Colin also composed a custom SID tune to accompany the artwork. The music matches the mood—slow, ambient, and reflective. There are no flashy leads or busy arpeggios here. Just a thoughtful melody that flows with the stillness of the landscape.
He created everything using real C64 tools. That includes drawing the pixels and composing the SID file. This combination of visuals and sound highlights the enduring creative power of the Commodore 64.
Colin’s piece isn’t loud or flashy. It’s quiet, deliberate, and personal—an invitation to pause and appreciate what can still be done with a 40-year-old machine.
