In a new video, Gregory Nacu, the author of C64 OS, removes the top case from an original CMD HD-40 and a new CMD HD-4000 from COREi64, offering a detailed look inside both devices. He then swaps the SCSI mechanisms between the two drives, allowing the newer CMD HD-4000 to serve as a daily driver while the RTC chip in the original board is replaced.
The original CMD HD featured a SCSI2SD v5, while the new CMD HD-4000 comes equipped with a BlueSCSI powered by a Raspberry Pi Pico. These new drives are available through COREi64, but purchasing one requires joining a waiting list. When a drive becomes available, COREi64 contacts the next person on the list to confirm their interest. Orders are not pre-paid unless the drive is ready for immediate fulfillment.
