Commander X16 Music Demo

Carl Georg Biermann isn’t just making noise on the Commander X16—he’s crafting soundtracks that make the system sing. His latest track, Deep Talk, is a drum and bass showcase built entirely with Concerto Multitrack, a software suite for creating music on the Commander X16. The result? A tightly arranged performance using nothing but the computer’s native sound generators—no samples, no tricks.

The heart of this Commander X16 music demo is Concerto Multitrack, a program designed to work with the system’s 16 PSG oscillators and 8 FM voices. The interface is mouse-driven, with a piano roll editor that lets users build up to 16 tracks per song using 32 custom instruments. And yes, drums are very much possible—just synthesized rather than sampled. Deep Talk takes full advantage of Concerto’s flexibility, layering multiple sound sources into a surprisingly rich audio experience.

From lush pads to rhythmic stabs, all of it comes from onboard synthesis. The 127Hz engine gives users tighter control than the usual 60Hz limit found on older machines. With over 150 preset instruments, a stackable oscillator system, and effects like LFOs and software envelopes, it’s clear that Concerto isn’t just a tracker—it’s a sound design playground. And Biermann’s Deep Talk proves that this is no tech demo—it’s music worth hearing.
