Commodore 64 MELTED: Is There Something To Save?

278

In this video, the Triple Freedom team encounters a heavily damaged Commodore 64 with a melted plastic casing and an unusable keyboard, likely due to extreme heat or pressure. Despite its battered appearance, they remain hopeful about finding life within this vintage machine.

Upon powering it on, the team witnesses a brief sign of life before it goes silent. Undeterred, they open the case to inspect the internals and discover that the motherboard and shielding, although heat-damaged, appear intact.

Their mission is to salvage the heart of this machine – its iconic chips. Carefully, they extract the SID (Sound Interface Device), VIC (Video Interface Chip), and PLA (Programmable Logic Array), each essential to the Commodore 64’s legendary status.

Testing each chip in a working Commodore 64, the team first confirms the VIC chip’s functionality as the screen lights up. Next, they verify the PLA chip’s functionality. Finally, they test the SID chip, and the familiar chiptunes of the past play, confirming its survival.

This journey highlights not just technical prowess but also the resilience of vintage technology. Despite the odds, this Commodore 64 has given its most valuable components, preserving a piece of computing history.
