Commodore 64 Shed Find Restored

182

In his latest video, Lee from More Fun Fixing It tackles a Commodore 64 shed find. The system, donated by a Discord community member, arrived in rough condition with missing keys and a damaged case. Despite the poor packing and years of storage, the machine showed promise as a project for Lee’s upcoming charity series.

After opening the case, Lee discovered a mixed story. The board showed previous repairs, including socketed chips and evidence of corrosion near the cartridge connector. Signs of water damage suggested the C64 had endured harsh conditions, yet many components were intact. Repairs labeled by FR Humphreys Electronics hinted that this machine already had a history of servicing.

Lee carefully cleaned the board and inspected the sockets before powering the unit. To his surprise, the Commodore 64 booted successfully. Running diagnostics confirmed that the RAM, VIC-II, and other core chips were functioning. Only the shift lock key showed issues, likely needing a simple cleaning.

The package also included an Altai cassette data unit and the original manual. While the tape deck showed belt issues, the manual only needed flattening under a heavy book to restore usability.

By the end of the video, the shed-stored Commodore 64 proved to be more survivor than scrap. With some cleanup and minor fixes, it will soon be ready for Lee’s charity initiative. The video captures the suspense of powering up a long-forgotten system and the satisfaction of seeing it spring back to life.
