Diagnosing and Reviving a Faulty C64 Motherboard

204

In this episode, the Triple Freedom team inspected the motherboard, uncovering signs of previous repairs. While the installation of multiple sockets suggested some effort to maintain the system, the overall quality of the workmanship was suboptimal. The KERNAL chip, in particular, raised concerns due to its condition.

To identify the root cause of the issue, the team systematically removed and tested each chip using a diagnostic machine. It was quickly determined that the KERNAL chip was entirely non-functional. The system was restored to full operation once replaced with a functioning chip. The team performed a thorough check to verify the functionality of all remaining components before reassembling the unit.
