Event Details

VCF Midwest 20 will take place on September 13–14, 2025, at the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center in Schaumburg, Illinois. This free festival continues to attract collectors, hobbyists, and newcomers who want to experience the history of personal computing.

Free Admission

The festival has no admission fee and requires no pre-registration. It is supported entirely by community donations and the well-known VCFMW auction, which often features rare items. Visitors can attend without cost barriers, making VCF Midwest 20 one of the most accessible computing events in the United States.

Dates and Schedule

The doors open at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, with the show running until midnight. On Sunday, the first talk begins at 10:00 a.m., with the event closing at 4:00 p.m. Guests can expect a mix of exhibits, presentations, workshops, and hands-on demonstrations. Displays cover everything from early computing kits to well-loved home computers, with some unusual telephone technology included as well.

Venue and Travel

The Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center offers space for large exhibits, speaker sessions, and a vendor area. The VCFMW website provides hotel information for those planning overnight stays. Schaumburg’s location outside Chicago makes the venue convenient for both local and national visitors.

Community Event

VCF Midwest 20 isn’t just an exhibition—it’s a community gathering. Exhibitors showcase restored systems and working setups, while visitors get to interact directly with the people who keep these machines alive. Collectors will find the vendor section an excellent place to trade, buy, and expand their collections.

Contact and Information

Organizers can be reached at [email protected], and the latest schedule updates are available at vcfmw.org. With its mix of exhibits, talks, and community connections, this event continues to be one of the largest retro computing gatherings in North America.

Organizer

Chicago Classic Computing

Chicago Classic Computing (or "ChiClassicComp") began as a Yahoo! mailing list in November, 2006, started by Silent700 to help bring together fellow hobbyists he met while giving away computers on Craigslist. List membership grew slowly over time but the same informal organizing structure remains today.
