The AnyBit Fever Dreams channel recently introduced MIDI capabilities on Phoenix Retro’s latest computers, the F256 K2 and F256 Jr2, powered by the SAM 2695 chip. Through developing a streamlined test application in C, users can efficiently generate MIDI audio and visually represent an 88-key piano interface. The software incorporates palette cycling, keyboard control, instrument selection, and external MIDI routing to accommodate a variety of hardware setups. Additional features like simultaneous dual-instrument playback and built-in percussion tracks highlight the creative potential of these new retro computing systems. This project positions itself as a foundational MIDI experimentation platform for future development.
