Fixing Frantic Freddie: Commodore 64 Bugs, Minus World

In this 8-Bit Show And Tell episode, Robin originally planned to create a video on modifying the music player code in the C64 game Frantic Freddie to function on the Commodore 128. However, changing several $D5 bytes to $D4 no longer seemed intriguing. During this contemplation, a patron named James Poll brought to Robin’s attention a minor glitch in the second interlude that suddenly became highly engaging. Additionally, Robin had heard rumors of a potential game-breaking bug at level 17—or was it a game victory screen? This sparked a new mission for Robin: to investigate these bugs and determine if they could be fixed.

The journey was not straightforward. Robin needed to develop several cheats and hacks to facilitate game progression. Utilizing the trusty Super Snapshot, he devised methods to obtain infinite lives and simplified level completion by reducing the required pots of gold from ten to one. He even figured out how to skip the interlude screens once they became tiresome. Finally, Robin reaches level 17 and ventures beyond, exploring the upper reaches of Frantic Freddie, reminiscent of the Minus World in Super Mario.
