Fixing MEGA65 Devkit Issues: MAX10 FPGA Bitstream Update

30

In his latest video, Gurce Isikyildiz ran into a bit of trouble while trying to get the shift+pound shortcut key working on his devkit—this key combo is essential for activating the yellow-green LED, indicating that the ethernet-based mega65_ftp feature is operational. To complicate things further, the reset switch on his devkit wasn’t very cooperative either, requiring two or three presses before finally kicking in.

After a bit of digging around, Gurce discovered the root cause of these issues: the MAX10 bitstream on his devkit needed updating. Once he updated the MAX10 FPGA, everything started running smoothly again.

Gurce did his best to document the update process, capturing some quick video clips directly from his phone. While he admits the footage isn’t the most polished—no fancy slides or slick editing this time around—it’s certainly authentic, reflecting his genuine, hands-on experience.

One quick heads-up for anyone following along at home: the MAX10 FPGA update Gurce performed applies exclusively to devkits (revision 3) and mega65 machines from batches #1 and #2 (revision 3a). If you’re lucky enough to own one of the newer batch #3 (revision 6) machines, you won’t need to worry about this—those versions no longer include the MAX10 FPGA.
