In the latest video from 8-Bit Wall of Doom, they provide a first look at the FNX6809, a drop-in CPU replacement that breathes new life into the Foenix F256 Jr. and Foenix F256K. Built around an FPGA-based MC6809 core, this upgrade swaps out the stock WDC65C02 CPU, unlocking fresh possibilities for these machines.

One of the biggest highlights? The expanded support for NitrOS-9, a powerful multi-tasking operating system originally designed for the Tandy Color Computer. With this latest port, NitrOS-9 now runs on the Foenix F256 platform—though currently, it’s limited to character (terminal) mode. That said, both Level 1 and Level 2 are fully supported, giving users access to a wealth of applications right from the start.

And this is just the beginning. More software is on the way, along with Foenix-specific graphics development, which could take this system to the next level. With its retro charm and modern enhancements, the FNX6809 upgrade makes the Foenix F256 an even more compelling machine for classic computing enthusiasts.
