RetroPassion has launched the FrameThrower PiStorm HDMI Adapter while targeting Amiga A500 and A2000 computers. The focus keyphrase FrameThrower PiStorm HDMI Adapter appears in that first paragraph. This accessory plugs into the Denise socket and lets both native Amiga screen modes and high-resolution RTG graphics go through a single HDMI cable.
Installation and How It Works
The adapter sits in the Denise chip’s socket, with the original Denise chip mounted onto it. From there it connects to the PiStorm via a flat-FPC cable included (for A500). The result: direct RGB output from the Denise chip is passed through HDMI. Because of this, users no longer need a second monitor or analog RGB-HDMI converter when using RTG desktop or WHDLoad games.
Why This Upgrade Matters
Users running a PiStorm-equipped Amiga A500 or A2000 often dealt with two separate video outputs: one for native 15 kHz modes (for classic games) and another for RTG/HDMI. With the FrameThrower PiStorm HDMI Adapter in place, the system now outputs both via HDMI. In effect the upgrade simplifies hardware, frees up tracks in modern setups, and delivers a cleaner single-cable solution.
Current Limitations and Future Update
At present the adapter handles video only. Sound output into HDMI is not yet supported, though a software update is expected to add that in a future release.
Availability and Pricing
The product is listed at £33.33 excluding VAT on RetroPassion’s website. Shipping reportedly begins 17 November 2025.
