FOUND ISSUE 64
“I feel the need… the need for speed!”

COVER FEATURE: FALCON PATROL
It has been forty years since Virgin Games released Steve Lee’s Falcon Patrol for the Commodore 64, and so we thought it was time we revisited this classic arcade shoot-em-up to find out what gives it its lasting appeal.

ANDREW BRAYBROOK: LOOKING BACK…
In part 2 of Andrew’s regular feature, he looks back at the many opportunities that came his way, which eventually resulted in producing computer games for an ever-growing commercial market. It makes for an interesting read.

JULIAN RIGNALL’S CCRAPBACK!
Our Julian shares some slimy brown-based stinkers from ZZAP!64 issue 4, which was published back in August 1985. Definitely a year to remember… and almost certainly a great list of CCRAP games! This time round he’s checking out the turd-wrenching delights of Jump Jet, Pac-Man, Nutcraka, and Jet Set Willy II.

SECRET SQUIRREL INVESTIGATES
Our intrepid squirreling agent has two case files to share with you this time round, and as always, they’re an interesting find with some cool messages.

THE DEVELOPERS’ DEN: KEN GRANT
In this installment of The Developers’ Den, we chat with a big-hitter within the gaming industry who has been prolific in the production of computer and video games for the commercial market. Ken Grant shares his early game development story, which features games such as Exterminator 64, Bump Set Spike, Battle Through Time, and Pacos Pete – to name but a few all for the Commodore 64.

COMMODORE 64 SCENE SPOTLIGHT
Now and again, something cool, clever, and interesting pops up in the world of the Commodore 64 scene… More often than not, it’s a gorgeous looking and sounding demo that quite simply blows us all away. The likes of Wonderland, Coma Light, and Next Level never cease to amaze us C64 enthusiasts. But sometimes, those clever coders take it beyond just visual and audio delights and kindly treat us to a FREE game that takes things to a different level. Our C64 Scene Spotlight for this issue shines upon the brilliant Bill & Ted’s Excellent Game Boy Adventure, which has been lovingly converted to the C64 in 2023 by the great Roman Werner.

OUT OF THE ‘MOULDY CUPBOARD’
We revisit Snake Pit, which is a 1983 arcade collect-em-up produced by the late, great Mike Singleton. Is it any good? Does it need to stay out of The Mouldy Cupboard? We’ll soon find out!

DIARY OF A GAME – INBREAD BY KARL HÖRNELL
Part 3 of our INBREAD development diary by the great Karl Hörnell. This time round, Karl starts testing the raster interrupts, concluding that his iOS game is doable on the Commodore 64.
