Subscriber copies are set to start dispatching at the end of November 2024.
Here’s what we have for you in FREEZE64 issue 72:
LOAD “ISSUE 72”,8,1
“I need your clothes, your boots, and your motorcycle.”
FOUND ISSUE 72
“I’m a cybernetic organism. Living tissue over a metal endoskeleton.”
COVER FEATURE: TERMINATOR II
Judgment Day is upon us! It has been over 30 years since I loaded up Terminator 2 – Judgment Day on my Commodore 64, and so it’s time to dust it off and take a retrospective look at one of Ocean Software’s top franchised games. “We’ve got company.”
ANDREW BRAYBROOK: LOOKING BACK…
Our Andrew takes a trip down memory lane and looks back at the development of Intensity, which was released in 1988 for Firebird Software. There is lots of fab behind-the-scenes development info.
INTENSITY: WHAT THE PRESS SAID!
We’ve seen what Andrew has to say about Intensity, but what *did* the UK Press have to say about it? Was it a HIT or a MISS? We’re about to find out!
JULIAN RIGNALL’S CCRAPBACK!
Julian revisits more low-scoring poop-infested games from ZZAP!64 magazine. These include Elektra Glide, Captain Kidd, Mr Mephisto, Mugsy’s Revenge, and Geoff Capes Strongman Challenge from May 1986. I can smell them from here!
SECRET SQUIRREL INVESTIGATES
He’s back, and he has 3 new case files to open, including Licence to Kill, Astro Chase, and Bandana City.
THE DEVELOPERS’ DEN: BOBBY EARL
This is a rare moment for the Developers’ Den. We seldom have the chance to speak with game designers from the Nineties, as our focus is usually on the early days of Commodore game development; however, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to chat with the programmer behind one of my favorite Commodore 64 arcade games from 1991. The game is Terminator II: Judgment Day from Ocean Software, and its programmer is none other than Bobby Earl. He has lots to share!
A MOMENT WITH… JOHN ROWLANDS
John Rowlands is back once again for another chat, and this time around he gets the chance to finally set the record straight regarding the lack of payment from Thalamus for Retrograde, and Creatures 1 & 2. You definitely don’t want to miss this!
THE MAKING OF AZTEC CHALLENGE
In our previous issue of FREEZE64, we had the honor of chatting with Commodore 64 programming legend Paul Norman, who shared the fascinating development story behind Forbidden Forest. Now, dear reader, we continue Paul’s C64 journey with a look at another of his top-selling games from 1983: the incredibly ingenious arcade adventure, Aztec Challenge. It oozes atmosphere.
OUT OF THE ‘MOULDY CUPBOARD’
We take another dive into the cupboard and pull out a rare delight from my teenage years: CYCLONS from Rabbit Software. Despite owning both UK published versions, I can’t picture what the game looks like. I don’t even remember the genre! Is it any cop? We’ll find out!
DIARY OF A GAME – OPERATION VOSTOKA
The first installment of our new game development diary where we follow Megastyle’s Chris Stanley as he produces Operation Vostoka for the Commodore 64. It’s real and it’s happening here!
A beautifully printed A5 Commodore 64 fanzine delivered straight to your front door.
