Ghostbusters C64 Sedgewick Hotel Game Surprises Fans

For fans of the paranormal and 8-bit classics, the arrival of the Ghostbusters C64 Sedgewick Hotel game is a delightful surprise. Created by David Izon, this fan-made release invites players to return to the haunted halls of New York’s infamous Sedgewick Hotel for a spirited round of ghost-catching.

The Ghostbusters C64 Sedgewick Hotel game centers on a simple goal: capture Slimer three times using a Proton Pack. Players deplete his health with proton streams, then deploy traps when he slows down. Along the way, they can zap fast-moving black ghosts for bonus points and snag Twinkies to restore their health. The mechanics are easy to grasp but deliver that classic arcade-style satisfaction the Commodore 64 community still loves.

David Izon first teased this project in 2021, showing early footage online before it faded into uncertainty. Many assumed the game was shelved, but Izon unexpectedly revived it this week with a working demo. He admits it’s still rough around the edges, describing it as “not polished” but shared in the spirit of fun. Fans, of course, were thrilled just to see it materialize after years of silence.

This version includes several updates beyond the original previews. Players can now explore additional floors of the hotel via elevators once a level is cleared, giving the game more depth than a typical single-screen shooter. There’s even an ending sequence featuring Gozer the Gozerian’s dramatic arrival—replacing the infamous “Conglaturation !!!” message from the NES version with a wink to Ghostbusters lore.

Despite being unfinished, the game captures the atmosphere of the movies with pixel charm and playful energy. It’s a welcome reminder of the C64’s enduring fan creativity and love for classic franchises.
