Guitar-Powered Commodore 64 SID Synth

426

In a new video, LukHash transforms a Commodore 64 into a guitar-powered SID synthesizer using TeensyROM. Created by Travis Smith, TeensyROM unlocks incredible potential for the Commodore 64/128, serving as a MIDI powerhouse, ROM emulator, fast loader, and internet hub. With support for up to three SID chips, it enables users to create music in any DAW or stream chiptunes from DeepSID, all played on authentic sound chip hardware.

LukHash demonstrates this setup using a standard guitar with regular pickups and PC software like @JAM-ORIGIN Guitar MIDI 2 or @migic6199 for solos. By connecting the guitar through TeensyROM’s integration with Paul Slocum’s Cynthcart MIDI software, he produces epic 8-bit synth sounds directly from the C64. The future of retro sound is here!
