The team at ICON64 has shared another behind-the-scenes look at their upcoming Commodore 64 game, Tyrian’s Towers. The new video shows the latest progress on a project that clearly draws inspiration from Atari’s arcade hit Crystal Castles while putting its own spin on the formula.

Designed from the ground up for the C64, Tyrian’s Towers blends fast gameplay with colorful, detailed graphics and an isometric viewpoint. The game centers around collecting gems across multi-level towers, while avoiding hazards and enemies along the way. The video looks at several playable levels, early gameplay mechanics, and refined animations that give the game a polished, arcade-style feel.

Stuart Collier handles coding duties, bringing smooth movement and responsive controls to the table — something critical for a game of this style. Trevor Storey, known for his distinct C64 art direction, once again delivers sharp character and environment designs that maximize what the C64 hardware can do. On the audio side, Saul Cross is crafting a soundtrack and sound effects that fit the fast-paced action and maze-like gameplay.

The video provides a detailed look at where the project stands, making it worth watching for anyone following C64 homebrew development or fans of Crystal Castles-style arcade action.
