Lost C64 Shooter Resurfaces Thanks to Genesis Project

A long-lost C64 shooter from the 1980s has made a surprise comeback, and it’s thanks to a lucky disk discovery by Hedning of Genesis Project. The game, Dominion, was developed in 1988 by James Doyle and Mark Hughes, tucked between their work on Master Blaster and Black Tiger. But unlike its better-known siblings, Dominion never saw the light of day—until now.

Hedning stumbled across the game on an old disk, and it quickly got the royal treatment. Zyron stepped in with a +2 trainer and high score saver, while Paladin made sure it played smoothly through thorough testing. This lost C64 shooter is now fully recovered, polished, and ready to blast its way onto your screen.

The game is a horizontal scrolling shoot-’em-up with all the classic trappings—waves of enemies, twitch reflexes, and that unmistakable late-80s charm. It may have been shelved for decades, but Dominion fits perfectly into any retro gamer’s library in 2025. The fact that it was made during the prolific period between two other well-known titles only adds to its mystique.

Genesis Project once again proves its value not just as a demo group but as cultural archaeologists of the Commodore era. Dominion isn’t just a rediscovered binary—it’s a preserved piece of game development history, now enhanced and playable thanks to the dedicated efforts of the scene.
