Minit64 Announced for Commodore 64

2050

Devolver Digital has confirmed that its quirky 2018 RPG Minit will receive a full port to the Commodore 64. Titled Minit64, the project is in development by Thalamus Digital, known for producing high-quality modern releases for classic hardware.

A Modern Game on a Classic Platform

Originally released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, Minit challenged players to explore, solve puzzles, and progress — all in just sixty seconds before the cycle resets. Bringing such a time-based adventure to the C64 is an ambitious task, but Thalamus Digital has already produced a working proof-of-concept, offering fans a tantalizing preview of what’s to come.

First Look at the Proof-of-Concept

The announcement came via Commodore Format Magazine, accompanied by an early gameplay video. While not the final product, the clip demonstrates the team’s approach to translating Minit’s minimalist style into the C64’s visual and audio capabilities. Expect significant changes and refinements before the official release, but the groundwork already captures the spirit of the original.

A Faithful Yet Optimized Port

The C64 version will retain the core gameplay loop that made Minit a hit — the constant sixty-second challenge — while optimizing performance for 8-bit hardware. This includes adapting controls for the Commodore joystick, reworking graphics within the C64’s color limitations, and crafting SID-based music faithful to the original’s charm.

Why Minit64 Matters

Modern indie games are increasingly finding new life on retro platforms, and Minit64 is a standout example. It merges contemporary game design with the nostalgic experience of loading a new title on a real C64. For both retro computing enthusiasts and Minit fans, this project is one to watch closely.
