GadgetUK presents another exciting unboxing. Today, a parcel arrived from Jamie Morgan, instantly recognizable because it was packed in a cat food box! GadgetUK had spoken with Jamie earlier but did not expect the package to arrive so quickly. Recently, they reviewed the new Tank Mouse for the Amiga, which can be seen in a video linked below. Although they missed the initial Kickstarter or pre-order for this mouse, it is likely still available for purchase. Fortunately, Jamie kindly sent a faulty unit to examine.
The Tank Mouse is an optical mouse designed in the classic style of the original A500 mouse, featuring a textured surface and a battery compartment. The optical functionality is a nice modern upgrade compared to older models. The mouse also includes a USB Bluetooth dongle, allowing it to connect to a PC or an Amiga adapter.
After some testing, GadgetUK noticed that the mouse was attempting to sync, but there appeared to be a pairing issue. They experimented with the Bluetooth settings and eventually managed to sync the mouse with a PC. It is currently working fine in that setup, and they plan to continue tinkering with it to get it fully operational with their Amiga.
A big thanks to Jamie for this generous gift. It’s always exciting to dive into these retro tech repairs and see what can be revived. Stay tuned for more updates as GadgetUK continues to test and explore the Tank Mouse!
