The OutRun PETSCII Build is taking shape as a creative interpretation of the legendary arcade racer. aNdy_AL_C0S has released a new test version that highlights the intro sequence and a full stage run. The route is selected at random, which adds variety to the demonstration. Music comes from Sean “Odie” Connelly’s PETSCII version of Magical Sound Shower, giving the game an authentic arcade feel.
For this test, roadside collisions and vehicle crashes are disabled. This choice keeps the focus on the speed, scrolling visuals, and the flow of the road. Gear shifting still needs refinement, and several status panels are not yet complete. However, all course data is now included and closely adapted to match the arcade design.
What makes the OutRun PETSCII Build stand out is the way it stretches PETSCII graphics. The result is a version of OutRun on the Commodore 64 that fans can instantly recognize. Roads scroll smoothly, backgrounds shift seamlessly, and block-character art comes to life with surprising clarity.
As development moves closer to completion, excitement continues to grow. The OutRun PETSCII Build proves that creative coding can transform text characters into an engaging racing experience. This preview shows why many are eager to see the final release.
