PRG Alias Maker Released for C64 OS

221

A freshly released utility for C64 OS, PRG Alias Maker, is now available and already filling a gap many users didn’t realize needed addressing—until now.

The download is available on the official site:

This utility simplifies the process of launching standard Commodore 64 PRG files from within the C64 OS environment. It creates what’s called a PRG alias, a small but significant file that tells C64 OS exactly how to run a given program—where it’s stored, whether it needs a disk image mounted, if drives should be reassigned, or even how to handle launch parameters. In other words, it lets the OS handle the quirks so you don’t have to.

In basic cases, creating an alias is just a matter of selecting the boot file in the File Manager and clicking a button. For anything more complicated—like disk image mounting or swaplist setup—the utility gives you the control you need without making you jump through hoops.

To support the release, a dedicated section has been added to the C64 OS User’s Guide, providing a clear walk-through of PRG alias functionality. It explains what aliases do, how they’re used with PRG Alias Maker and PRG Runner, and how you can use them to launch software directly from File Manager or place them onto your App Launcher desktops for faster access.

Whether you’re running games, apps, or utilities, PRG Alias Maker helps streamline the experience. It’s the kind of tool that feels like it should have been there from the start—and now it finally is.
