Quantum Soundtracker by Aleksi Eeben

Quantum Soundtracker is a 3-channel, sample-based tracker with a mixing rate of 16 kHz and an internal resolution of 8 bits. The editor supports loading signed 8-bit mono raw samples, but these samples are scaled down to 6 bits upon loading. The effective output resolution on a standard machine is approximately 6.5 bits.

The precise sample rate is 16,151.61 Hz for PAL systems and 16,765.37 Hz for NTSC systems, which is important for resampling sounds. For more detailed information, refer to the Frequency Table.

Quantum Soundtracker is compatible with both the original 6581 and the newer 8580 SID chips, automatically detecting the SID type when the editor or an exported executable is launched. Generally, the 8580 provides slightly better sound quality due to its more evenly distributed DAC output values.

When using emulators, select the ReSID 8580 or ReSID 6581 mode. If the sound quality is not as expected, consider resetting the emulator settings or using a different emulator.

Quantum Soundtracker is available for free. You can download it from the CSDB or Aleksi Eeben’s Dropbox.
