Lee, the tinkerer behind More Fun Fixing It, is back with another restoration project—this time, tackling the infamous Commodore 64 “wedge” power supply. Anyone familiar with these original C64 power bricks knows they have a bit of a reputation… mostly for their tendency to fail catastrophically and take the computer down with them. Not exactly ideal for retro computing enthusiasts!
In his latest video, Lee takes on the challenge of making this aging power supply safer and more reliable. To do this, he turns to a modern PSU replacement project designed by TimPeri, which is available on GitHub. This open-source project provides a PCB layout that lets hobbyists build a new and improved power supply while maintaining the classic C64 aesthetic.
If you’ve ever worried about the longevity of your Commodore 64’s power supply—or just love a good electronics rebuild—this is definitely a project worth checking out.
