In the latest episode of Tim’s Retro Corner, Tim dives into repairing a rather unfortunate Commodore 1541 floppy disk drive. This particular drive comes from fellow retro computing enthusiast and YouTuber, Steve at 8-Bit Retro Refix.
To say it’s seen better days would be an understatement. Not only is it battered and worn, but it’s also non-functional, missing key components, and—just to keep things interesting—has clear signs that something inside has quite literally exploded. But that’s not going to stop Tim. Armed with his usual patience and expertise, he sets out to bring this relic back to life.
The repair process isn’t just about getting the drive working again. Tim takes things a step further by fitting a Mean Well power supply for improved reliability and giving it a modern upgrade with JiffyDOS. Because why just fix something when you can make it even better?
