Jani, from the popular retro-computing blog World of Jani, recently shared an exciting new project: restoring a vintage PROLOGIC DOS Classic floppy speeder by Jann Datentechnik, also known as REX Data Technology.
The PROLOGIC DOS Classic isn’t your everyday piece of vintage tech; it’s uniquely designed with two distinct parts—one PCB that goes directly into the floppy disk drive and another cartridge-style PCB that connects to the Commodore 64.
When Jani first acquired this particular device, it was in pretty rough shape and completely non-functional. Undeterred, he embarked on a detailed restoration journey. He carefully disassembled the entire system, meticulously cleaned both PCBs, replaced damaged components and sockets, and skillfully resoldered everything into place.
After some dedicated effort and patience, Jani successfully brought the PROLOGIC DOS Classic back to life. It’s now fully functional and ready to speed up floppy disk operations, bringing back nostalgia for the golden days of Commodore computing.
