Today the Retrobits Youtube channel has released an in-depth preview of the highly anticipated port of SSI’s Eye of the Beholder for the C64 and C128 computers.

Eye of the Beholder was originally developed for the PC by Westwood Associates and then published by SSI for MS-DOS back in 1991. The game was also ported to other platforms such as the Amiga, SNES, and Sega CD.

The C64 version has been in development for 16 years. The primary developer is Andreas Larsson along with a handful of other developers and people from the demo scene.

Gameplay is in a first-person perspective window much like Interplay’s Bards Tale series, however, the graphics are much better. You can also add and remove NPCs from your party.

The game is slated to be released for free in October of 2022 and will require a cartridge such as an Ultimate II+, Backbit, Easy Flash 3, etc. due to its size. You will also be able to play it via VICE.

Stay tuned for more news about Eye of the Beholder for the C64.
