The Shoot ‘Em Up Construction Kit (SEUCK) Competition is back in 2025, giving Commodore 64 fans another chance to unleash their creativity! Organized once again by The New Dimension (TND), this annual contest invites developers to craft their own shoot ’em up games using SEUCK or its sideways-scrolling variations. Entries will be accepted until April 30, 2025—so if you’ve got an idea brewing, now’s the time to bring it to life!

What is SEUCK?

SEUCK (short for Shoot ‘Em Up Construction Kit) is a game creation tool originally released as a commercial utility for the Commodore 64. It provides a structured way to build vertical-scrolling shooters—no programming skills required! With its built-in menus for designing levels, characters, and enemy behavior, SEUCK has remained a go-to tool for both beginners and experienced C64 game designers.

A Look Back at the Competition

The SEUCK Competition first launched on shmups.com, thanks to Akira, before later being managed by TND. It has been running off and on since 2009, but after a three-year break, the contest is back by popular demand! With its return in 2025, the competition aims to spark another wave of creative and innovative game submissions from the community.

How to Participate

The goal of SEUCK Compo 2025 is to create a fully playable game using either SEUCK, Sideways Scrolling SEUCK Left, or Sideways Scrolling SEUCK Right. Any game genre is allowed, but entries should stand out with strong gameplay and design. Additionally, all submissions must include at least one pickup item or an extra life at 10,000 points, which can be used for in-game power-ups or bonuses.

For full details on rules, submission guidelines, and entry requirements, check out the official SEUCK Compo 2025 page on TND’s website.

Summary

SEUCK Compo 2025 is the perfect opportunity for Commodore 64 game developers to showcase their talent. Whether you’re a seasoned game creator or diving into game design for the first time, this competition gives you a chance to contribute to the growing library of C64 games. Submissions are open until April 30, 2025, so fire up SEUCK and start crafting your next 8-bit masterpiece!
