Spy Kombat Review – SEUCK Compo 2025 Entry by Pinov Vox

171

Spy Kombat is the latest action-packed Commodore 64 game developed by Pinov Vox for the 2025 SEUCK Compo. It throws players into a spy thriller where bullets fly, secrets are stolen, and one agent’s mission could tip the balance of global safety. The game blends a familiar “run ‘n’ gun” formula with multi-level action across a sprawling spy headquarters, all driven by SID soundtracks from Richard/TND and Pinov Vox himself.

The story follows Agent Shancky, a lone operative chasing down the elusive Mr. X, a traitorous spy who’s lifted top-secret defense documents from within the “Shadow” organization. These aren’t just any blueprints—they’re tied to a global defense initiative that, if exposed, could set off an international catastrophe. Shancky’s orders are simple: recover the stolen intel, uncover the truth behind Shadow, and stop Mr. X before the files change hands.

Gameplay in Spy Kombat takes place across two floors of an enemy-controlled base filled with henchmen, gunfire, and power-ups. Players navigate ladders to move between levels, blast through crates for bonuses, and aim for a high score that rewards every 10,000 points with an extra life. The goal is clear: locate Mr. X, bring him down, and make sure the stolen plans never see daylight.

The atmosphere is pure C64: colorful, direct, and focused on action. The music blends pulsing title screen themes by Richard/TND with in-game tracks from Pinov Vox that keep the tension humming. For a game made with SEUCK (Shoot ‘Em Up Construction Kit), it shows plenty of personality, with the right amount of chaos to feel like an ’80s spy flick distilled into joystick form.

For anyone following this year’s SEUCK Compo, Spy Kombat offers an energetic entry that’s fun to watch and even more fun to play. Whether Agent Shancky succeeds is up to the player—but the explosions along the way make the mission worth taking.
