Tim recently acquired a batch of 6532 RIOT chips for a new project. The RIOT, or RAM I/O Timer, functions similarly to the Commodore 64’s 6526 CIA but includes additional RAM. Needing a way to test these chips and unable to afford a Retro Chip Tester Pro, Tim decided to design and build his own chip testing cartridge for the Commodore 64 with a C64 Expansion Port Cartridge Project Development PCB he purchased. He then wrote a program in BASIC to run the tests. This process is documented in this episode of Tim’s Retro Corner.
