Tyrian’s Towers Development Update: Gameplay Progress and Editor Enhancements

166

The team at ICON64 is hard at work on their upcoming game, Tyrian’s Towers. Heavily inspired by the Atari coin-op classic Crystal Castles, this game aims to bring players a fresh yet nostalgic experience. A new development video showcases the progress made, highlighting gameplay mechanics and tools that are shaping this promising project.

In the first segment of the video, Stuart Collier demonstrates the addition of collectible eggs to the game’s editor. Players can now move through the levels, gathering these items as part of the gameplay. This update reflects a major step forward in defining the core interactive elements of the game. Collecting eggs serves as a key objective, encouraging exploration and rewarding players for their navigational skills and strategic planning within the levels.

The second part of the update focuses on a new visual layer that allows the player character to move behind walls. This mechanic enhances depth and visual variety, while also opening possibilities for more dynamic level designs.

The final portion of the video offers a glimpse into the nearly finished level editor. The developers now can create levels, position eggs, and lifts, and export them directly into the VICE emulator for immediate testing. This streamlined process not only saves time but also ensures that new features can be quickly evaluated and refined.

Next on the development agenda is adding level-specific details and introducing enemies to enrich the gameplay. Each of these updates will contribute to a more engaging and polished experience.

ICON64 comprises an experienced and talented team: Trevor Storey, Stuart Collier, Georg Rottensteiner, and Achim Volkers. Together, they are crafting a game that promises a memorable and immersive experience.
