Tyrion’s Tower Review

BastichB 64K returns with a sharp and entertaining look at Tyrion’s Tower, the latest C64 release from Icon64. In this Tyrion’s Tower review, viewers get a detailed breakdown of the fast-paced arcade action baked into this isometric throwback. Released in May 2025 and published by Psytronik Software, the game is part of their Psytronik collection and marks another solid entry from a studio that rarely misses.

Tyrion’s Tower draws clear inspiration from Atari’s 1983 arcade title Crystal Castles. You play as the god of the tower, scrambling to collect the queen’s scattered eggs across 50 action-packed levels. The gameplay shares its DNA with Pac-Man—run, grab the collectibles, dodge the baddies—but with some added spice. Shields offer brief protection, and a limited-use hammer lets you knock out enemies. Some foes are invulnerable, others eat eggs, and every level ends when the final egg is grabbed—by you or by them.

The isometric view does bring a slight learning curve, but the controls feel responsive with practice. The visuals are clean, colorful, and unmistakably Icon64. SoulCross handles the music, and it’s a highlight—quirky, fast-paced, and surprisingly varied. Every track is also included in MP3 format with your download.

Compatibility isn’t an issue. The game runs on NTSC and PAL systems, works with emulators, and supports real C64 hardware. You can grab a digital copy from itch.io, or go physical with options on tape, disk, or cartridge from Psytronik.

This Tyrion’s Tower review shows a game built with care, speed, and style. With Icon64 already delivering Avalon and Ladybird earlier this year, this one feels like a victory lap. It’s smart, it’s polished, and it’s undeniably fun.
