Breathing New Life into a Classic
While the long-promised Blingboard remains MIA, the Digital Man has taken matters into his own hands. He’s diving into an Ultimate64 keyboard mod, giving a tired original Commodore 64 keyboard a much-needed facelift for his Ultimate64 Elite-II system.
In his latest video, he walks viewers through the restoration — cleaning up decades of accumulated funk and repainting the metal base. And while he’s not thrilled about keeping the original brown keys (who is?), they’re holding the line… for now.
LED Ambitions on a Budget
What’s a retro mod without some RGB sparkle? He’s planning to add addressable LEDs to the keyboard for that perfect fusion of 8-bit and bling. Ideally, APA102 strips would be used, but those are currently harder to find than shrink-wrapped GEOS disks.
Instead, he’s leaning toward WS2812 strips. While not yet fully supported by the Ultimate64 firmware, he’s hopeful compatibility is on the way — which means this Ultimate64 keyboard mod could soon light up like a demo party backdrop.
