Xeryon-3 C64 shooter is the latest work-in-progress from indie developer Pinov Vox. Known for fast-paced Commodore 64 games and pulse-pounding SID tracks, he returns with a preview of this vertical shooter—and it already looks packed with energy.
The video shows a looping gameplay segment: you pilot a ship through continuous enemy waves, dodging bullets and unleashing firepower. It’s familiar territory, but this one’s tuned for speed and spectacle. The music hits hard, the animation is sharp, and the scrolling remains smooth throughout.
How Xeryon-3 Builds on Past Releases
Pinov Vox—also known as Vg Vox—has already released several C64 shooters on itch.io, including Diamond, Star Blasta, and Mega Vortex 2. While many of those were developed using tools like SEUCK, Xeryon-3 pushes well beyond the limitations of that engine. It plays more fluidly, looks better, and sounds tighter.
The Xeryon-3 C64 shooter expands on his earlier title Super Xeryon 1, released in 2024. That game offered a basic prototype of the Xeryon universe. This sequel feels like a significant step forward, with more enemies, improved scrolling, and refined visuals.
Visual and Audio Highlights
What immediately stands out is the visual clarity. Enemy sprites are distinct, movement is smooth, and explosions have that crunchy pixel flair fans love. The soundtrack—composed by VG Vox—offers a focused, aggressive SID sound that suits the pace. Sound effects are kept minimal but impactful.
This attention to audio and animation makes Xeryon-3 C64 shooter more engaging than many homebrew efforts. It feels like a game built for twitch reflexes, but with enough style to keep viewers watching even if they’re not playing.
What Comes Next?
Since this is still in development, there’s plenty of room for additions. Expect new levels, more weapons, and tighter mechanics. Pinov Vox is active on YouTube and Patreon, and usually posts updates during development. A final build will likely appear on itch.io once complete.
Fans of Commodore 64 shooters, retro development, and chiptune music should keep their eyes on this project. Xeryon-3 isn’t finished, but it’s already showing polish and promise.
