Zangief’s Theme (C64 Remix by Nordischsound) Hits Hard with Real SID Power

Nordischsound is back with another Street Fighter II remix—this time giving Zangief’s theme a proper 8-bit makeover. And yes, it hits like a spinning piledriver straight from a frozen Red Square.

This version was built on real Commodore 64 hardware, driven by the iconic SID chip that has defined chiptune sound for decades. The result? Gritty, growling, and full of the kind of sonic punch that feels like it could knock over a bear (or at least rattle your retro-loving eardrums).

Zangief’s original theme was already a standout with its bold, heavy rhythm—fitting for a character whose idea of “tactical” involves grabbing people and spinning until physics gives up. But Nordischsound takes that energy and pushes it through the SID filter, stripping it down to raw waveforms and driving arpeggios that stomp rather than dance.

It’s not a reinterpretation designed to be soft or polished. It’s the 8-bit version of a metal chair to the face: full of character, perfectly imperfect, and very Zangief.

For longtime fans of Street Fighter II, it’s a fun reinterpretation. For those who grew up with the C64 or just appreciate what SID can do when pushed hard—it’s a reminder of how much grit and personality that little chip can squeeze into a few kilobytes.

Want to hear what Zangief would sound like if he’d grown up playing Exploding Fist instead of wrestling bears? Don’t miss the video.
